Just 3 years ago I had no idea how CG art was made. I was clueless. I fell in love with the process and how much easier I found it to express myself artistically. With these tools I've learned there are no more limits to my expression. Here are a few environments I created for my Demo Reel class at Gnomon.

Arab Merchant Tent

This piece was a project I used to push myself. I took this project on as a way to learn Marvelous Designer and to push my texturing abilities. This was a very fun project to do and I believe I grew a lot from it.

Here is a quick breakdown video to showcase the wireframe, programs used and concept for the piece. This was rendered in Marmoset Toolbag 3. Marvelous Designer was used to sim the canopy, cloth bolts, pillows and drapes. I used Substance Designer to generate maps for the rugs and painter to apply all textures. Modeling and sculpting was done in Maya and Zbrush.

I love plants and lighting that glows. When I saw the illustration by Sayaka Ouhito, I knew I had to do it. I took some liberties to make this piece my own and I'm happy with the results. This project was a great exercise in lighting in Unreal Engine 4 and stylized modeling.

Here are a few stills.

One of the ways I break down a scene before I begin modeling is by assigning each material a color in Photoshop. This helps me figure out how long an environment will take and the scope of the work I'm in for. The next step, after getting all or most of the modeling done, is to figure out my lighting. Putting everything in the scene also helps me figure out scale and the general feel.

Thank you for taking a look at my environments. I grew a lot as an artist and I'll continue to grow while making more art like these.
