When a certain painting or object captivates you so much that you think you have completely disappeared into it. Can you suddenly really find yourself in the world that you admired from the outside just a moment ago? Look around, reveal what was hidden by finally getting around the corner.

K360 is a 360° VR experience which allows the player to get the full experience of the strange world of Jonas Burgert.

In the pandemic I tried to think of possibilities about how museums and galleries can stay interesting during long lockdown periods. Some of them already got parts of their exhibitions online. Those one-sided pictures can get boring quickly because you can’t really interact with them.

It would be much more interesting if you have an app that would you allow to explore exhibits from every angle. It would be a new experience for the viewer.

With this project I wanted to create such an app with Unity for the painting “Kopfschluss” by the German artist Jonas Burgert. I wanted to make it possible for the viewer to stand and walk around in the original painting. There also will be another version in which painting is expanded in all direction to create a whole 3D environment and the characters get fitting animations.

The first scene is only about the painting. It shows the exact same cut out in a white environment. The transitions between the colors and the white are smeared with brush strokes to to make them appear less hard.

The second scene contains a fully painted environment except for the left side which remains white with the brush strokes transitions. In this scene the figures are moving. You can also here some sound effects.

And when the pandemic is finally over (or at least we are back to a new “normal”) those kinds of apps can be great advertisements. It can be offered online on the website as a teaser of the exhibition. Or you can download it directly in the exhibition. While standing in front of the original, it is then possible to dive a little deeper into the exhibit and look at it from all sides.
