PROJECT BRIEF

This project is to design a furniture for the new normal located in a restaurant environment.

CONCEPT INFLUENCING THE DESIGN

The coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic is the defining global health crisis of our time and the greatest challenge we need to face from the beginning of the year 2020. the pandemic is much more than a health crisis, it's also an unprecedent socio-economic crisis. Every day, people are losing jobs and income, with no way of knowing when normality will return. Every country needs to act immediately to prepare, respond, and recover. New normal is a change in behavior or habits to continue carrying out activities as usual but by always implementing health protocols in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Lockdown, social and physical distancing have been hard to bear for most of people in their world.

My concept is Social Distancing. Social distancing, also called “physical distancing,” means keeping a safe space between yourself and other people who are not from your household. To practice social or physical distancing, stay at least 6 feet (about 2 arms’ length) from other people who are not from your household in both indoor and outdoor spaces. This social distancing have take such a big impact in human life. The reason is because it's not adaptable yet and there are nut much things that can help social distancing yet. Now the world still trying to produce things to help social distancing.

The concept was inspired from a Tube/Pipe.

SINGULARITY OF THE FURNITURE PIECE

This furniture is called C-pod, means Contactless Pod. The main idea is for social distancing and contactless delivery. The unique of its is that it can be use in this pandemic situation, but it also still can be use when the pandemic ends. The reason is because the furniture have one eye-catching idea which is the contactless delivery. The contactless delivery applied in the table. So the table is pull-able table which the food can be delivered from the outside without any physical touch. Furthermore it also have the self-disinfectant system, so it will be more safe and clean after it was being used by the customers. This pod also have LED lighting which can control the atmosphere inside the pod. The LED lighting color can be change regarding the customers needs. More over it also have semi-private pod which it is closed by a glass partition on the side. The pod itself also comes in 2 type which is it comes for 4 people or 6 people. The placement for this furniture is also profitable because it can be place in side by side and back to back. The good thing about this pod is it allow people to eat on the outside even in this pandemic situation. As it is still clean and safe, it also have semi private spaces and it also have the contactless delivery which is what people need in the moment. 

POTENTIAL USE AND MARKET APPEAL

This furniture is really profitable in this pandemic as it have the contactless delivery and self-disinfect features. As what people looking for right now is more towards safety, and distancing. While nowadays people also looking for something eye-catching, unique and new. This pull-able idea is a new thing that is attractive. The main purpose of it is for social distancing and contactless delivery, but in addition to that it also one of the main idea to attract customer attention. As they are now always wanted to try something new and unique. The market now also got impacted by the pandemic, a lot of restaurant have closed their place because they don't have enough safety requirements. Most of them might take down their business as they can't continue their business and get no income. This pod might help their situation as they still can open their restaurant, they have the C-pod that provide clean, safety and contactless. So they still can continue their business safely for both perspectives, restaurant and customers.
