18/19 UI/UX Works - Jerrold

Jerrold Wong
by Izzah Shafarinah, Yap Kah How, and jerrold on 2 May 2019 for Rookie Awards 2019

Here are some of the works I've done during 2018-2019. Some of these works were done during my internships at local startups and government agencies in Singapore, as well as final year projects for school!

An exhibition of collaborative works by Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts and Nanyang Polytechnic. Created an immersive experience for users via audio-visual projection stimulation, including the sense of smell in the user experience, incorporating the sense of taste without actually having users taste anything

The Concept

To create an immersive experience for users via audio-visual projection stimulation, as well as including the sense of smell in the user experience. To incorporate the sense of taste without actually having users taste anything, a virtual tasting experience.

The Challenges

A number of challenges were faced during the project, as such dealing with vendors and venue restrictions. Despite being the programmer on the team, I also had to pitch in with the setup alongside the builder of the project. It was also my first larger scale Arduino project, which was fun!

we the people.

User Experience, user interface design and art direction for an app-oriented political discussion forum targeted towards the youths of Singapore.

Art Direction

Politics has always been on a spectrum. With two opposing sides and a wealth of information to process, newcomers may not have a proper understanding of what’s going on. I went for a brutalist, anti-design concept.

No distractions, just politics.

Different Screens

Challenges Faced

Politics being a touchy subject in Singapore, this UI concept will find difficulty in even actualising. However, I believe with enough time, this is an achievable goal

HR & Payroll App

Enterprise Product I worked on during my internship at Govtech. I had a hand in designing the UI/UX of the particular module of this HR & Payroll app.

My Contributions

I was tasked with coming up userflows and screens for the leave application part of a HR & Payroll app for Govtech. Taking into account current existing user mental models and app architecture, I began a 2 week ideation process, exploring multiple different kinds of UI.

Challenges Faced

Having to cater for 11 different types of leaves, with most of them having 3 customisable options was a very interesting challenge. I had to dig deep into UX thinking while designing.

With the userbase for this app being 145,000, design choices have to be fundamentally solid.

UI Exploration

Asset Management System

Enterprise product that I had a hand in. I worked on the UI/UX, revamping the Asset Management System while working within the capabilities of the vendor responsible for delivering the product

My Contributions

I was tasked with revamping the UI of the AMS web portal and mobile app, as current users have unsatisfactory feedback. Taking into account current existing user mental models and app architecture, I came up with updated layout and button designs, error message designs, as well as making sure all error messages in the system have a cohesive tone of voice.

Different Screens

UI Exploration (Empty States, Filters etc)

Challenges Faced

Enterprise design was something I rarely explored prior to this internship, resulting in my tendencies to try and beautify the visuals. However, visuals were one of the least important bits of this web portal and app. Usability, as always was the key priority, thankfully, after some exploration on other similar apps, I could begin designing a proper user-flow and set of screens.
