Eyes and lines of a passive painter.

I'm Shuang Jing/Jing, an artist who enjoys sketching and painting life itself. Using my eyes to see, and the lines to draw, while being inspired by the artists around me, is how I find myself completing another piece of art.

Jin & Yin: The Origin Of Joss Paper

"Jin & Yin" is a group IP project that I participated in alongside my four other amazing groupmates during my days in college. With a historical Chinese setting, its a fictional story that explains the connections between the living and the dead during the Qing Ming Festival, made with respect and appreciation towards the tradition.

I designed one of the characters alongside his prop, and the character I was assigned to design was in charge of the role of the antagonist of the story. In the story there was a law that the living and the dead had to abide to, where the living cannot interfere with the dead and vice versa. This character was made to control the dead from breaking the law, keeping them in check.

I designed him with an old senile Eunuch in my mind, his skin losing life, turning into purple grey from his days spent in this cold dusty underworld. He slowly loses his emotions and the ability to think, until all that is left is a body with no host, abiding the law and carrying his daily tasks while dreaming of his living days of serving the Emperor.

Next up would be my creature and vehicle design, which are both connected to each other. The creature I was assigned to design was a neutral creature in our story. I was assigned to design an underworld creature that serves as a transportation for transporting the Joss Papers from one station to another.

I designed the creature with the inspiration from the Chinese mythical creature, Dragon Turtles. My concept of this creature was that it had been abandoned by its believers, causing it to fall into the role of a transportation vehicle. Its shell is designed to be made out of ceramic, with the colors of jade, to make it feel  seemingly noble, yet unimpressive. Its transportation capsule is designed with the shape of a slavery metal ball, to show that it is bounded by its task.

For the final part of this project, I have designed the gate that connects the living and the dead, one that allows the visit of the spirits during the Qing Ming Festival, and the return of them to the underworld. Alongside my other groupmate that designed the gate that was placed in the underworld, I was tasked with the design of the gate in the human world.

The gate was designed to be an old, stony gate that sticks on a wall. It has no doors, but an entrance that opens only twice a year, by the start, and the end of the Qing Ming Festival. The gate is found in an abandoned temple above the mountains, where the people once pray and offer to the dead.

Sands and Stones

This is a series of my personal matte paintings that mostly includes sands, stones, and mountains, therefore the title. There really isn't much reasoning behind this project, besides being inspired by the amazing environment paintings out there. To see and want to do; am inspired and so I create. I believe that I am merely such a person.

Aniyu: Fallen Snow

Aniyu is a small personal stylized project that I have created which includes only the character, creature and the environment. I was greatly inspired by the movie "Klaus" during its release, and chose the Eskimo and Inuit people to lay as the fundamental of this project.

Personal Explorations

These are my personal practices, explorations, and studies during my free time. I don't have a personal style that I'm akin to, therefore I spend most of my time wandering around different paintings and designs, learning from the artists I've came across.

Wayang Kulit

These are the characters I've designed for the IP I am currently working on. The concept follows the tradition of the performance of Wayang Kulit, with the puppets turning into reality, causing trouble to the main characters. The story itself is inspired by a Chinese mythological story, the finishing touch of the painting of a dragon.

Portrait Studies

Painting portraits are the kind of painting that I find myself indulged in the most. The simplicity yet complexion in each characters face and expression is always fresh as each and every of them is unique on their own.

Sometimes I paint some still life, scenes from movies and films, and photographs. Anything that I find intriguing, I might paint it as a form of practice. They're small pieces that I don't usually show, but they're a part of my journey.
