Story

The Kingdom of Sky was an ruled by one winged humanoid race called 'Wingmans' who they dedicated themselves to observe the dying humans whatever they will go to heaven or hell by recording their deeds done in life.

One day, two Wingmans Yunus and Yaminah where assigned to observe a dying boy and judge his fate to the afterlife, however Yunus sympathetic outlook put him at odds against Yaminah and the Kingdom itself.

Concept Design

Wingman General

Shabaka's chief enforcer, the Wingman general himself is the Kingdom of Sky's military leader and directly answers to King himself.

I based the general's design on a Janissary officer and his special dual inverted wings allows him to maneuver and fly quickly in combat while signifying his own importance to the Sky Kingdom.

Wingman Guard

The imposing sentinels of the kingdom, they dutifully and directly answer to their general and the Sky Kingdom with unquestionable loyalty.

Part falcon and part scorpion hybrid, they had the innate ability to adapt to the human world bellow whenever they are deployed with help from their falcon cap.

Before the 3rd sketch was chosen, I explored and researched designs variants of hybrid with animals with influences from Arabic mythical creatures.

General's Mediation Platform

The personal platform where the general meditates to rejuvenate before being called upon as it hovers throughout the palace.

I based his platform on several examples of Arabic sultan thrones with the 2nd sketch being chosen with the star and eagle motifs along influencing the sleek design itself.

Bad Deed Platform

The storage platform is for the mechanical wing dedicated for use by any Bad deeds Wingman observer.

I based the design on several ornate bird cages and Arabic lamps with a curved shape design on all of my sketches with the third design eventually being chosen.

Sky Kingdom's Palace

The palace of the Sky Kingdom and Headquarters of the Wingman's, this structure towers stands imposingly on the floating island that it was located on with the central beacon shinning brightly to all returning wingmans.

I explored the palace design with many elegant marble buildings based on Islamic Architecture with some gold coating to emphasize their regal status.

Corner Spice Shop

This spice shop was located near a secluded alleyway, with the smell and variety of spices attracted many customers everyday.

It was here the dying boy desperate tries to nourish himself before being chased off by the unsympathetic shopkeeper to the alleyway entrance .

Illustration

Desperation

This illustration shows Yunus's using all his might to heal the boy as the latter starts to die in the secluded alleyway. Disregarding Yaminah's warning and his supposed duty as an observer.

In the exploration sketches I tried to play around angles to make the scene dramatic but enterally was chosen showing Yunus's personal conviction to save the boy very well. As for the color thumbnails, I chose the 2nd thumbnail to fit the desert city around him with me adjusting the values later on.

Retaliation

This chaotic scene shows Yunus's cunning attack against the general who arrived on the human world to apprehend him for breaking the Wingman's code as shocked bystanders watched on in the marketplace street.

The general's design shown is based on an earlier design before the the actual final design is completed.

While the third color thumbnail was chosen, it was the 4th sketch was chosen instead.

Promotional Art

This promo art shows an angry Yaminah confronting against Yunus with falling stars as her magical powers

This illustration was made in collaboration with one of my teammates to form a combined image when aligned together symbolizing their contrasting ideals and loyalties.

Both of us showed sketches and discussed what elements and colors to include in our collaborative illustration together with me doing Yaminah's side and my teammate doing Yunus's.
