Development for the Colonists, starting with a selection of head sketches and picking ones that stood out 

Development for the colonist labour character - a hulking individual subjected to experimentation and harsh physical work. First stab at design development didn't work out so I went back to the silhouettes and tried to push the shapes and body language, going for the much more square and bulky look.

Development for the Nomads. This was the rare occasion where I felt comfortable with the initial sketch, so I could proceed straight to the final designs  - this was also helpful with the time constraints I was under

Initial shot mock ups in Blender (Eevee). I used this time to learn/get to grips with blender

3D mock assets made in Blender(QuickCurve)/ZBrush - rigged for posing with Mixamo. 

Reworking the mock shots from the initial Blender experimenting + some greyscale shape studies of real-world rock formations

Concept sheet for the floating rock formations - starting with a silhouette, trying to create visually interesting shapes that still read as rocks, but with a slight sense of unfamiliarity and "alien-ness" to them
