Artwork by Jim Bhak
Hi! My name is Jim, and I'm a graduate student in the SCAD animation program. My focus is modeling and texturing, so here are samples of my characters, props and environments.
Samurai Firing Teppo at Night
Sculpted in Zbrush, retopoed/modeled in Maya, textured in Substance Painter, presented in Marmoset. I wanted the color accents to highlight his face and his swords.
The sleeves, pants and flags were roughed out in Marvelous Designer and finished in Zbrush.
The narrative of the diorama is a night siege of a castle.
The rope tying the gun to his waistband is a kind of medieval night-sight, where the length of the cord pulled taut would allow the gunner to have the proper elevation for his shot. (Got this from "Giving up the gun: Japan's reversion to the sword, 1543–1879" by Noel Perrin, p. 40.)
The armor is based on this suit that from the Asian Art Museum:

Lion Guardian
A mech I created for my comic. Modeled in Maya, textured in Substance Painter and Photoshop.
Apartment Props
Some props I made for a location in my comic. All props are modeled and UV'd in Maya, and then textured in Zbrush, Substance Painter and Photoshop.
Victorian Kitchen
A kitchen for my comic, set in the Victorian era.
Modeled in Maya, textured in Substance Designer and Painter, and materials authored and lit in Unreal.
Thanks for checking out my work!
