Female Fighter Characters (Kumiko & Nailah)
Inspired on the Street Fighter saga, I created this two characters (or skins). The base mesh is the same for both although at first glance have such opposite personalities.
The inspiration for this project was the Street Fighter videogame. I decided to work on female anatomy, and once I had the main shape, I gave her two different outfits.
First, I spend a few hours searching for bodybuilder women anatomy references. Then I found two different concepts that would help me with the idea of the character's styling and personality.
Secondly, I started sculpting the character in Zbush. I started with very basic shapes, and then I merged all them and I gave more detail. Once I finished the body, I did the clothing.
After all the sculpting, I started with the retopology in Topogun and the UVs in 3dsMax.
Once I had everything ready, I textured it. For that i used Marmoset Toolbag for bakes and Substance Painter for texture.
The final characters had three texture sets (Kumiko) and two texture sets (Nailah) you can see below.
For further optimization, I used the MRAOH workflow to apply it in Unreal.
Finally, I was able to implement the characters in Unreal. For the skeleton of animations, I used the base mannequin of the engine. I downloaded some fighting animations from the Epic Store to give my characters some movements.
For more realism i added physics in some of the hanging clothes. You can watch it below:
You can see more of the reel screenshots down here:
