Hello! This is my first entry to the Rookies awards. This is my first FX reel made from projects I did at CG Spectrum Houdini FX program.

Hello, my name is Laura and this is my Houdini FX reel. I have been working on these projects while studying Houdini FX program in CG Spectrum. This has been a great learning experience for me and I'm happy to be showcasing my progress for the first time in the Rookies Awards.

And this is the short breakdown video of my reel.

I will be breaking down some aspects of bigger projects of my reel.

For my first project I created the church, bench and chair assets and textured them in Substance painter. The assets have been modelled in Houdini, and church has been designed with modularity in mind for the ease of scaling the set.

Portal FX were made from advecting particles from volume and layering different sims to create variation. Dust and dust particles were made using the same method.

For the car RBD project I used Kombi model provided by the Rookies, with some adjustments made. The car constraints are divided into between pieces and between sections with the separate rig for wheel suspension and added axis for stability. Shaders for the cars were made in Houdini using Redshift materials.

Fantasy type smoke coming from the well scene was made using Quixel assets and parasite rig from Truong CG. Atmospheric fog was made using Houdini volume with animated noise, smoke coming out of the well was made using two different Pyro sims. The saliva effect on the monster was made with FLIP fluid simulation and some custom art-directable strings.
