FX Artist Demo Reel - Sonia Medina
This is my Demo Reel and the most relevant projects I did this past year, while studying a VFX Master in FX Animation School.
FX Demo Reel 2021
This is my FX Demo Reel with the most relevant projects I did this year at FX Animation School, where I had the opportunity to create different effects and simulations in Houdini.
Here below you will find each project separately, with a very short description. Hope you like it!
TRAPPED - Choth/Particle/RBD Project
I really enjoyed this one specially because my reference was the wonderful job of Sekani Solomon's HIDDEN. It is not only visually beautiful, but also combines different simulations which makes the project even more interesting.
The chains are simulated using VELLUM Solver, as well as the Cloth. Then, I simulated some particles floating from the characters. Finally, and to add something that was not in the original reference, I simulated some RBD Fracture on the chains.
Grenade - RBD Fracture Project
My first RBD Project made in Houdini. Simple but elegant. Based on the ttitles of DFCB IMPACT AWARDS made by Jon Gallo
VELLUM Project
Based on the main titles of the TV Show "Catherine the Great" by HBO. This was my first time working with Cloth simulations in Houdini.
Burning House - PYRO Project
For my first Pyro simulation in Houdini I decided to create a burning house. I've always liked the cinematic look of the flames in the night, with a siluete in the first plane.
For this project, I did different fire simulations creating custom velocities to simulate the virulence of the flames escaping from the doors and windows. I also created smoke columns in some parts, to give the impression that everything inside that house was being burned to ashes.
Finally, and to give some dynamism to the shot, I simulated the coat of the main character.
Battle in the DAM - Crowds Project
If you have seen The Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 1, this scene might sound familiar. I based on that specific scene to do my first Crowds Project in Houdini.
All the characters that appear in the video are Crowds: the shooters had different animations to be different from each other. Also, by applying different triggers, I changed states from idle animations to shooting.
The protesters, not only have triggers to change from running to die animations, but I also create ragdolls to change state once they are injured by the shooters.
