Abhilash Katta Rookies Entry 2021
Hello, I'm Abhilash Katta and I am a recent graduate from the Srishti Institute of Art, Design and Technology, Bangalore with a Bachelor's in Digital Media Arts. Since I finally had the time to pursue my own projects, I have worked on improving my portfolio and by making these pieces over the last 8 months.
Showreel 2021
A Showreel/compilation of the work I have created in the last 8 months after graduating with a Bachelor's in Digital Media Arts from the Srishti Institute of Art, Design and Technology.
Lizard Wizard
Through this project, I wanted to try to recreate the stylized, hand-painted and magical feeling of the concept, using a real-time engine. Hand painting characters in substance was a new challenge for me, but I feel pleased with the result! Sculpted in Zbrush, UVs, cleanup done in Maya, textured with Substance Painter and rendered using Blender Eevee.
Based on a concept by Alex Braun.
Isometric room interior
I wanted to experiment with hand-painted techniques as well as stylized sculpting for some of the assets in this project. Modelled using Maya, Blender, UVs done in Maya, textured with Substance Painter and rendered with Cycles in Blender. High res sculpting details done in Zbrush.
Based on a concept by Etienne SAVOIE.
Rick and Morty Fanart
For this project, I sculpted the characters in Zbrush and then brought them to Maya for Uvs and cleanup. I also modeled both the guns in Maya. I then brought the characters back into Zbrush for High res sculpts and pose to them using Zspheres. After the details, I took them to Substance for baking. texturing and then exported them to Blender. Here I setup the render using Cycles and Optix.
I'm a big fan of Rick and Morty and I had a great time working on this project. It was a challenging, yet rewarding experience, faithfully converting the style of the show to 3D.
Fisherman's House
Modelled using Blender, UVs were done in Maya, textured with Substance Painter, and rendered with Cycles in Blender. High-res sculpting details done in Zbrush.
Based on a concept by Svetlana Pereshivkina.
Street scene
I modelled this scene in 2018 for a class, based on a reference provided, and I stumbled upon it recently. I decided to clean up and polish the models, create UVs for them and re-texture them. I was quite happy with the result, specifically the texturing as it breathed new life into this piece. The modelling and UVs were done in Maya, textured with Substance Painter, and rendered using Blender Cycles.Street Corner Bar
My first experience working with Substance Painter. Modelled in Maya, textured with Substance Painter and rendered in Blender With Cycles using Optix.
Based on the concept by Fernando Correa
Aspardax - Creature Concept
The concept for this character was inspired by the initial wave of survival first-person shooters such as “Doom”. I set out to create a creature that would possess demonic features and unsettle the viewer.
The centre of the character is a sphere into which the body of the creature can curl. Spikes and spines have been used to create a creature that evokes a sense of fear. I sketched a rough concept in Sketchbook initially and then started working on the sculpt in Zbrush. Modelled in Zbrush, UVs were done in Maya, textured in Substance Painter and rendered using Blender Cycles with Optix.
Creature description:
The ferocious Aspardax has great mobility as well as defence. It curls into a ball and rolls to safety when a threat appears. When on the offensive it unfurls its spikes and thrusts them into its prey. It then injects its victim with venom that paralyzes them and slowly makes them lose all form of motor control.
