Finding my Feel-good type of art
I started this school year focused on tech art and scripting in Houdini, then moved to taking care of environment art in Unreal. Now i want to make small character art projects and have fun. I hope you enjoy this entry as much as i did!
This project started with me wondering how i could mix 2D and 3D in a single piece. A lot of professionals do overpaints of amazing 3D environment scenes and characters, which speeds up the process and gives great results. However, this project was intended to be an after-school-chill activity, so i focused on getting the best results with the least amount of effort. I will use the tricks i learned in this one to make the grand project i am aiming for.
I started with making the character in photoshop and sketching a few objects that could be floating around to accentuate the focus of the piece.
Then i imported everything in blender as reference planes and textures. Put the textures on simple spheres and curves. I gave every object a slight animation, either rotation of the object itself or the movement of the texture.
A few camera tricks, a bump map and a roughness map helped me to blend the elements together and make the plane objects react to the moving light.
Here are some more character explorations that i started in my free time
And my most favorite piece of the year. It didn't receive as much support online as the other ones, but it includes all of my favorite tropes, elements, colors and it was fun to render.
It really helped me find the perfect space between the artwork i do for improving my professional skills and the doodles i make to feel good about choosing art as a career.
thank you for your time and i hope you enjoy your day :)
