Project Brief:

To design a fashion boutique for Cartier at Unit 2.22.00 to 2.23.00, L2 & L3 at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, Bukit Bintang, 55100 Kuala Lumpur. The built-up floor area of this unit is 1717 square feet / 500m2. The design capsualizes the spirit of Cartier where its creations symbolize the fusion of exceptional savoir-faire and timelessness. The design is going for a French Neo-Classcial concept which executes the grandeur and prestigious identity of Cartier.

Client Brief

Cartier International SNC, or simply Cartier is a French luxury goods conglomerate which designs, manufactures, distributes, and sells jewellery and watches. Founded by Louis-François Cartier in Paris in 1847, the company remained under family control until 1964.The company maintains its headquarters in Paris, although it is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Swiss Richemont Group. Cartier operates more than 200 stores in 125 countries, with three Temples (Historical Maison) in London, New York, and Paris.

Cartier is regarded as one of the most prestigious jewellery manufacturers in the world. In 2018, it is ranked by Forbes as the world's 59th most valuable brand. Cartier has a long history of sales to royalty. King Edward VII of Great Britain referred to Cartier as "the jeweller of kings and the king of jewellers." For his coronation in 1902, Edward VII ordered 27 tiaras and issued a royal warrant to Cartier in 1904. Similar warrants soon followed from the courts of Spain, Portugal, Russia, the House of Orleans, and so on.

Concept Statement:

The goal for this project is to design a a boutique or store which perfectly suits the identity of Cartier. With the site locating on the busy streets of Bukit Bintang, the Cartier store should definitely have a design which matches up with tits surroundings which is the Pavillion Kuala Lumpur. Known as one of the most prestigiuos jewellery brands in the world, Cartier has gone a long way down from history to reach its status today and no doubt that lot of effort has been put into action.

Using the title given by King Edward VII of Great Britain where Cartier was referred as "the jeweller of kings and the king of jewellers.", I have developed three keywords that would be incoporated into the interiors of its store. Firstly is pairs or double, which could be seen from the logo of Cartier with two interlacing letters ‘C’. With the two letters C detached it could become a feature to its interiors such as a two way staircase which represents the words double.

Other than that is Symmetry and Perpendicular, which too can be seen from the logo that can be proven as both sides will be the same when cut into half. These elements can be used greatly in its interiors as it could also bee seen in other stores of Cartier. Symmetry helps to create a balanced atmosphere instead of having clumps of unorganised space. This also helps to elevate the shopping experience of its customers.
