This project is to design a Co-working Space for WeWork at Level 20, Leisure Commerce Square, No.9, Jalan PJS 8/9, Leisure Commerce Square, 46150 Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

Client:

WeWork is a company that rents office space to start-ups, small businesses, and large enterprises. Some real estate experts have referred to WeWork’s offerings as "office space as a service" or "micro-office space." The New York-based WeWork got its start in 2010 renting out shared office space – whether to provide temporary quarters or remote office/branch office (ROBO) space to companies but more recently has begun renting entire floors to larger companies. WeWork leases floors of buildings and entire structures, often in major metropolitan areas with prime real estate, and makes them attractive with modern with amenities such as Wi-Fi, desks, conference rooms, printing stations, couches, custodial services and a reception area.

The company has spread its reach beyond the United States, through a partnership with Softbank in Japan. The company also has a Chinese unit and purchased a competitor in Singapore. In addition, WeWork has expanded its presence to the United Kingdom, Israel, Hong Kong, Mexico, South Korea, Australia, the Netherlands and many more around the world.

CONCEPT STATEMENT:

The goal is to design a productive and comfortable coworking space that are targeted to the Millennials and the Generation X. As a symbolism to the space, the in-house design team also tries to incorporate local cultures into the space from different co-working spaces from all around the world. Therefore, the diversity of Malaysia is also incorporated into the design such as the cultures of different ethnic groups. Pattern is taken into call in terms of the Batik from the Malay, Embroidery from the Chinese, Saree patterns from the Indians and many more.

Besides that, Colors are also used wisely to design the coworking space. The idea of incorporating the colors of the flag of Malaysia, also known as Jalur Gemilang, helps to add a special touch to the space. The colors are also the primary colors red, blue and yellow which are bright colors that can add attitude to the space.

With all these elements and ideas combined, I would like to design a coworking space that is not only useable and satisfy the needs of the users, but also highlights the culture and characteristics of Malaysia through small details from the interior of the space.
