ELIGIBILITY

To enter the Contest, you (the Artist) must be an amateur artist with less than 1 year of professional experience in the visual effects industry.

In other words, you are not eligible if you have been employed and paid as a professional artist for a combined period of more than 1 year in a field that is closely related to the subject matter of the contest.

Exceptions to this rule are paid internships which do not contribute to your combined period of professional experience. The intent and spirit of this rule is to ensure you have not gained unfair advantage over other competitors. There will always be complicated use cases, so please contact the organizer if you’d like your eligibility reviewed.

How to enter

A few simple steps:

  • Create an entry page and share regular updates of your progress.
  • When you’re ready to submit your final deliverables, make sure to add The Rookies logo as a small watermark to help indicate to the judges which elements they should consider as final submissions.

Deliverables

  • 1-5 renders of your final images (1920 x 1080 minimum).

Requirements

  • You must share regular updates of your progress to your entry page. Entries that only upload a single update will be disqualified.
  • No post production work allowed in Photoshop
  • No importing of additional materials
  • No importing of third-party or personal models

Guarantee of the Artist

The Artist guarantees to The Organiser that:

  • The submitted media (images, videos, 3D models, code) were made by the Artist.
  • All work is original and that you have the right or authority to enter and publish. The Artist must clearly state if they have included third party images, media or reference as part of their entry. This content is allowed and will be reviewed accordingly.
  • By submitting your project you agree for The Rookies to share your project with their online community.
  • All details submitted by the Artist are true and correct, and the Artist indemnifies from and against any and all claims and demands made against The Organiser, its assignees or licensees, in relation to the guarantees provided by the Artist in these rules.
  • The Artist must submit an entry directly to our contest. Only entries that are submitted here will be reviewed by our judging panel and considered an official entry.

Judging Criteria

  • The Process - we want to see your process from start to finish. This contest uses the Play by Play project builder which means you can share every little update similar to a forum.

  • The judges will be looking for entrants that show great technical and creative skills. The judges will also be looking for entries that share regular updates and get involved in the community.

  • Most importantly, the judges will be looking for photorealism with renders.
