Nicolò Granese

Italy | Think Tank Training Centre Online

When I was 14 I started studying Photoshop thanks to an online forum. I fell in love with digital design. Starting with stuff like logos, web designs and tags I learned all the basics, then in 2015 I discovered Cinema 4D and I started learning 3D modeling, since then I've never stopped.

Since the first time I open the 3ds max, I hear a voice in my mind: "That's it! That's what I'm looking for!!" And I never stopped after that. I've been working on a 3D visualization studio for some years, and now I'm looking for a chance to do what I love most, characters.

Since my childhood, I have always been passionate about cartoons and movies, leading my attention to learning drawing at that time. Eventually, I ended up going to architecture school, but I did not feel complete, something was missing. It was during my graduation, I had my first flirt with 3D software, following the path to the architectural visualization. Eventually, to be a better professional, I signed for some modelling classes, and from that point, I knew that was my calling.

As a child I was always drawing comics, reading fantasy novels or playing video games. I ended up studying drawing and photography at a university where I was always trying to open discussion about video games and entertainment media as art forms. After, I pursued technical knowledge at Think Tank Training Centre and opened myself up to the incredible world of CG. In CG, I keep meeting many like-minded people that inspire me to put no limit on creativity and to keep learning.

When I watched cartoons and movies on TV as well as in the theaters. I've always enjoyed cartoons very much as a kid yet never really thought that it was a possible career path for me in the future. It was "How to train your dragon" and a few other animated movies/TV series that really solidified my decision in being a CG Artist. I realized how much they inspired me and that this was the form of art that I'd like to pursue.

When I said that I wanted to make something like that, my mother said, “You can; do something like that.” It changed my mind, from that day I worked towards studying animation and then compositing with the goal of making movies I could love as much as the ones I saw as a child.

Just as every other child, I really enjoyed playing in imaginary worlds, defeating dragons with sticks and living in castles made of sheets. But as I grew older there were still stories to be told and worlds to be built, so when I found out there was an industry that allowed me to live out those fantasies, I knew I wanted to be part of it! That much I owed to my younger self.

I made my decision in my childhood. I used to watch Hollywood movies with my grandfather. The movies we watched together allowed me to forget unpleasant things and gave me courage to face difficulties. Visual effects were one of the key factors to make me devoted to the world of a film. Even though I grew up and found a movie was an utter fiction, visual effects still have the magic to make me forget it. And that is what inspires me since I was a little child.
