Founded in 1988 in Viborg, Denmark, the school's original purpose was to train teachers in animation and provide workshop space for artists wanting to experiment. During the following years, TAW created more courses and produced more films, meanwhile building a solid network of talented and experienced animators who were happy to visit as guest teachers. In 2003, the first bachelor program, Character Animation, saw the light and since then Computer Graphic Arts (2007) and Graphic Storytelling (2013) have been added.
Our objective is to provide facilities and resources for projects and artists to grow; to establish and maintain structures for higher education and professional training that secures the best learning and talent development; and to generate cultural understanding, both nationally and internationally, through the animation and comic book industries. We have also played a vital role in many international projects, which seek to improve and create an understanding of the role functional animation and applied comics can play in public discourse, learning and modern communication processes.
