Gobelins, l’école de l’image – RUNNER UP

Saint-Marcel, Paris.
Gobelins L’École de L’Image or Gobelins, the school of visual communication is a Parisian school of the visual arts, with its main location near the Latin Quarter. A consular school funded by the Parisian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, it provides several programs at a range of fees.

It is best known for the Cinéma Department of Animation, founded in 1975 by Pierre Ayma, who brought the school into the spotlight. It has an international reputation, producing numerous talented individuals and teams hired by the world’s leading animation studios, including Disney, Universal, Hanna Barbera, Pixar, DreamWorks and Warner Bros. Its former students include many strip cartoonists and animation artists such as Didier Cassegrain, Cromwell, Jean-François Miniac, and Pierre Coffin. The faculty includes world-class industry leaders such as Michel Bouvet.

After high school diploma and civilian service, I began studying Film at Merz Akademie in Stuttgart, Germany and switched to Filmakademie Ludwigsburg after a year to study Animation focused on Visual Effects. During my studies I worked as a Visual Effect artist as well as VFX on Set-Supervisor for films and advertisement projects.

Rodrigo Janz

Rodrigo Janz - Runner Up

Since I was a kid I was very fascinated by the forests and the mountains. In Brazil, where I was raised, I was lucky to live very close to a huge area of Atlantic Jungle Walking in those woods always fed me with a lot of imagination and a love for exploring. The interest for photography and images came naturally to me, since I was always trying to share what I've seen on the wild. In my hometown there isn't a place where you can learn high end CGI.

Hi! I'm Martin, 21 years old 3D Generalist from Czech Republic. Fields of my interest go from animation, trough full CGI pipeline,cinematography, graphic design, illustration, motion design, music production, photography to sound design. I constantly try to challenge myself by learning new things that in many cases push me far out of my comfort zone. At the moment I'm graduating from Tomas Bata University in Czech republic.

I spent my time at Media Design School sharpening my animation skills and becoming a better storyteller. My primary strength as an animator is realistic body mechanics, so I feel I would be suited to either games or VFX, but am confident in more cartoony animation as well.

Hi my names Zak Boxall, I'm a third year student studying visual effects at Hertfordshire University. I specialise in modeling and texturing and will be graduating in May 2016. I've always been interested in visual effects since the first Jurassic Park, I never considered I could make a career out of doing something I love and do in my spare time. which makes working in visual effects a dream come true.

Judges Comments

The standard is incredibly high and the decisions were very hard. I liked the variety of animation and vfx across all the entrants showing a wide range of talent across all disciplines. As for the winners all I can say is the the level of detail in both creative and technical terms is amazing. Time has being spent to make sure the visual outcome is fantastic and the technical skill set is of a very high standard.
