About Me

Tianran Qin was born in 1988, Beijing, China. After he earned his bachelor’s degree in engineering and industrial design in 2010, he became a commercial photographer. In 2015, Qin came to the USA and began studying at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) for his MFA in photography.
Qin started to be interested in photography when he was around 20 and indulged the preternatural ability of photography to be so close to one’s memory, impression and experience. Increasingly, photography has become the way he gets to know and understand the world, so he always shoots something he is curious about and is fresh to him. Meanwhile, he also tries to express his understanding of a place to others through his photographic works. Qin likes the subjectivity of photography because that is exactly what makes a photograph of something more meaningful and emotional than just the record of reality. Photography is never trying to depict the true reality; it is always about the carefulness towards the subject.
