Entry category descriptions and
example project types.

Each category is targeted towards a specific industry. There can often be a small
amount of overlap so please use the following examples as a guide.

Feature Animation

Digital media content created specifically for the use in a stylised Feature Animation film similar to Pixar and Dreamwork.

Submitted works show imagery created for use with feature animated films. The content can be photorealistic, but the purpose of the generated content is for use in fully computer generated films. Environments, characters, set, props, animation and effects will primarily have a “toony” or “Pixar” style to them. Recommended artists: Modelers, Texture & Shading, Riggers, Lighters, Animators, Effects TDs, Compositors…

Visual Effects

Entries with a focus on live action visual effects for film and advertisements. Skills ranging from roto through to comp.

Submitted works show imagery created for use with live action footage. Visual effects involve the integration of live-action footage and generated imagery to create photo realistic environments, characters, sets, props, animation and effects that would be dangerous, expensive, impractical, or simply impossible to capture on film. Recommended artists: Rotoscoping, Matchmove, Modelers, Texture & Shading, Riggers, Lighters, Animators, Compositors, Editors, Effects TDs, …

Digital Illustration

Illustrations and concept art created for feature film, computer games, story narrative, advertising and fanart purposes.

From character and environment design to matte painting and digital paint overs, the judges will be looking for all examples of digital illustrations and concept art.

Game Development

3D based content used in the creation of video games for console systems and mobile devices.

Projects entered can include any content specifically created for a game. This includes models, environments, animation, fx, level design and more. The judges will be looking for the best creative and/or technical submissions.

Virtual Reality

Content created specifically for use with virtual reality headsets is the goal here. This includes games, apps, and all VR experiences.

Projects should be presented in video format and show what the viewer would experience.

3D Motion Graphics

Entries which showcase video projects that feature 3D components, animated still images, or live action with graphics.

Product Visualisation

Focused on product, furniture, and gadget design that are to be manufactured through techniques of mass production.

Entrants will typically come from a Product Design or Industrial Design background. They will likely have experience with AutoCAD style programs which offer a more precise building platform with a strong focus on real-world physics and restraints.

Architecture Visualisation

Content created to help visualise building interiors and exteriors, landscaping, town planning and sustainability.

Entrants will typically have studied Architecture, Interior Design, Environment Design and Town Planning.
