Rookie of the Year – Winner
Jan Sebastian van Ackeren

I am an Industrial Design Engineer from Germany, trained as Open Innovator in the Netherlands. I spend my time rethinking existing concepts and envisioning new product functions, with a hands-on approach and an eye for detail. This portfolio exhibits projects spanning across various disciplines of Design and Engineering, as I enjoy both the abstract and technical side of the design process.

Rookie of the Year – Runner Up
Veronica Lin

I’m Veronica, an industrial and aspiring interaction designer. I am in my last semester studying design at Rochester Institute of Technology. You can often find me taking pictures or doodling in my sketchbook. Born dreamer, I’m pursuing a life between inspirations and creations. With a concentration in Psychology, I am interested in creating things that don’t overturn conventional wisdom, as much as they evolve. I believe design should always be better than what came before, that the things that surround us should be simple and fun to use. I want to design products that need to exist.

I am a creative product designer, who loves to see designs through from the first post it notes to the finished workshop article. I thrive under pressure and work well in teams. Through experience from teaching English in multiple countries, I have learned to communicate clearly and concisely and to have a greater understanding of those around me. I bounce ideas off other people and am ambitious and always strive for my best.
