Nethys the king of the forest
My first Zbrush project at Skyup Academy
Hello everyone! I am excited to share my first sculpture made in ZBrush after completing the initial 3D sculpting module at Skyup Academy following the main theme: European mythology.
Let's start with Nethys's final renders:
To create Nethys, I was inspired by Leshy, a creature from Slavic mythology, but I envisioned him as a quadruped in a more stylized style.
After collecting a good set of references, I started to bring Nethys to life on a piece of paper.
The second part of the module consisted of creating our character in clay to study the lines and volumes of our creature. As you can see here, I have changed his expression into a more villainous and fearful expression like as a real Leshy.
Once this phase was complete, I moved on to sculpting my creature with ZBrush.
I started to create the blocking with z-spheres for the basic shape.
Once the blocking was finished, I started to add detail without exaggerating because I wanted to preserve the stylized style. You can see the process below.
After completing the sculpting in ZBrush, I imported my creature into Maya to do the final render with V-Ray.I had selected a couple of references for the lighting and after several tests, I chose the one that characterized it most as a majestic creature.
